What's Happening With Estancia and Grass-Fed Beef

  • “Why don’t we tell each other what we do want to be? Let’s articulate a positive goal. What if we said we want to be 100% fabulous? That is a metric! The danger in the environmental world is people think that being less bad is good. Being less bad is by definition bad.” – William McDonough

  • In a recent article by Christopher Weber, Grist raises a question that is becoming increasingly important: Is grass-fed beef a fad, or a major new market? Of course, our camp is firmly set up on the latter side of that question. Grass-fed beef signals a huge shift in food culture; more and more people are starting to desire beef that tastes like beef. We take pride in the knowledge that with great taste, comes better management of land and livestock.

  • CrossFit: It’s the fitness program that has been taking over the country, box by box. Here at Estancia, we are both pleased and proud to be providing athletes with our 100% free range, grass-fed beef (at a great price!) through our Primals Program. If you are a CrossFit athlete or box owner and would like to know more, email us at primals@estanciabeef.com.

  • We love food and we love to blog. So it's just natural for Estancia to support the Second Annual FoodBuzz Blogger Festival. It all happens Oct 19 - 21 in San Francisco. Foodies can meet and mingle with the Bloggers they love and Bloggers get to add some real world interaction to their solitary, keyboard-rattling lives. Here's how Foodbuzz CEO Ben Dehan describes the event:

  • Our pal Mark Bittman over at The New York Times has an awesome blog post about Jeremy Grantham, an investor who is convinced that big money can be made from investing in organic, sustainable food production. Grantham sounds like our kind of banker:

  • Came across an excellent article by Jane Chiao over at policy mic that lays out some of the best reasons why anyone who cares about their health or the planet's health should only eat grass-fed, pasture-raised beef.

  • Here's a fun, if a bit amateurish, infographic that explains why grass-fed, pasture-raised beef (the only kind Estancia sells) is better for you and the planet than grain-fed, feedlot-produced beef.

  • Interesting discussion over at Chowhoundregarding the differences between grass-fed and grain-fed beef. Some very interesting quotes/take-aways: Grass-fed/Grain-finished vs. Pasture-raised/Grass-fed (like Estancia!) All benefits of grass feeding are lost within short weeks of grain feeding. A grass fed label cannot be slapped on feedlot beef, even if the feedlot was only a matter of weeks. "Grass-fed" as a Marketing Term

  • Ever heard of David Asprey? He's a sort of bio-hacker guru, or as he describes himself: Dave Asprey is a Silicon Valley investor, computer security expert, and entrepreneur who spent 15 years and $250,000 to hack his own biology. He upgraded his brain by >20 IQ points, lowered his biological age, and lost 100 lbs without using calories or exercise..

  • We've been meaning to get to this for a while: the winner of the New York Time's essay contest that challenged the newspaper's readers to explain why eating meat is ethical.
